June McGough Cook's Obituary
June McGough Cook of Haleyville, Alabama , a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully of September 22 at the age of 87. She was a woman of deep faith, immeasurable love and quiet strength, who like was a beautiful reflection of the things she cherished the most.
Visitation will be Saturday, September 27 from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church, 24235 State Highway 129, Haleyville. Funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Union Grove Cemetery, 2221 County Line Rd, Haleyville.
To be known and loved by June was to be fed her delicious cooking and baking. Her wonderful food and hospitable spirit brought comfort and joy to family and friends. Frequently setting out extra plates at dinner, June created a home where anyone who walked through her door was welcomed and loved through her cooking. Each meal she prepared was an expression of love that filled every gathering with warmth and infused her home with comforting aromas, especially the aroma of fresh baked sourdough bread.
June found joy in simple pleasured and had a skill for creating beauty in the humble settings of everyday life. Her vegetable garden was a source of pride and nourishment. She lined many shelves every summer4 with home canned goods that were a testament to her dedication, skill , and hard work. She was Ann accomplished seamstress who stitched love into everything she made, creating beautiful pieces that will be treasured for many years to come. Her flower beds bloomed with the same warmth and care she gave those around her.
A member of New Hope Baptist Church , June's faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her grace and compassion through both joys and challenges. She loved serving on the kitchen committee for Vacation Bible School each summer.
Above all, June was dedicated to her family. She married the love of her life, Hershel, on May 8, 1953, and in the following years raised her 3 children with love and steadfastness, teaching them the value of a strong work ethic. She led by example, working many different jobs throughout her life; memorably driving the school bus for 6 years. delivering students to the school with care and safety. She spent many years working at NAILFAST before retiring in 2003. June was a shining example of joy, dedication, and hard work at all her jobs, but her favorite one-and the one she was best known for was Mama June.
June will be remembered as a dedicated mother, loving grandmother, caring friend , and a woman who created a home that was open to all and difficult to leave hungry.
June is survived by her children, Steve (Sonja) Cook, Tim (Sandi) Cook and Sandy (Donnie) Reynolds; brother, Dale (Linda) McGough; sisters-in-law, Rosa Lee Cook Mobley and Judy McGough; grandchildren, Shannon (Jessica) Cook, Angelina Vandiver, Joanie Cook, Katelyn Reynolds; great grandchildren, Jonathan (Mariah Hernandez) Tidwell, Daniel (Sarah) Tidwell, Tori Vandiver, Hunter Cook, Brandon Davison, and Austen Cook; great-great grandchildren, Abraham Tidwell, and Maddie Tidwell. She took great pride in her family and cherished the time spent with them.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Sarah Emma McGough; husband, Hershul Cook; granddaughter, Amanda Cook Tidwell; brothers, W.O. Dodd, Roger McGough and Robert McDough; sisters, Bernice Rowell, Jean Green and Ruth Courington; nephews, Henry Schultz, Ricky Dale McGough, David Scott Courington, Barry Dodd, Terry Cook and Jackie Harrison; niece, Sarah Self; and many more loved ones.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
