Evelyn Fay Walker's Obituary
Evelyn Fay Walker was born on December 24, 1951, in Hamilton, Alabama, to the late Corbett and Mary Lou Casey. Graced with a Christmas Eve birthday, she was a gift to all who knew her. A woman of unwavering faith, Evelyn served as a member of Mt. Zion II CME Church and Hamilton United Methodist Church before making her home at Rutland Chapel CME Church in Cherokee, Alabama. She served faithfully as a District Conference Officer and Annual Conference Officer in the CME Church for many years — her dedication felt not just in titles, but in everything she did. She also devoted her professional life to her community through her work at the Hamilton Housing Authority. Evelyn's greatest love story began early. Karey Joe Walker declared as a boy that he would marry one of Corbett and Mary Lou Casey's daughters — Fay. On December 24, 1970 — her very birthday — they sealed their love at Mt. Zion II CME Church. For 48 years she was his devoted wife, his partner, and the light of his life. Karey Joe preceded her in death in June 2019, but there is little doubt he was waiting for her on the other side. Evelyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Karey Joe Walker; her parents, Corbett and Mary Lou Casey; and her siblings, Betty Terrell, Alice Dean Stewart, Lee Zima Stegall, William "Sonny" Casey, Mary Ollie Clifton, and Eva Dale Casey. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Crystal Shea Walker Rutland (Marcus) of Cherokee, Alabama, and Joey Lance Walker (Melanie) of Severn, Maryland; her grandchildren, Marcus Horatio Rutland Jr., Amaya Lauryn Walker, and Mia Simone Lucrecy Walker; her siblings, Peggy Stone, Rev. Kenneth Casey, and Vicki Robinson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Evelyn Fay Walker worked the Lord's work, loved her family deeply, and finished her course with grace. Heaven gained an angel on March 6, 2026.
All are welcome to visit and pay their respects on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at the Rutland Chapel CME Church from Noon - 1pm located at 185-199 Rutland Chapel Ln, Cherokee, AL 34616. Funeral Service will follow at 1pm.
